Online safety with the NSPCC

With the Summer Holidays comes freedom, fun and family time - a time of reconnection and relaxation.  However, for many young people school friends, (whom they see daily during term time), may become more difficult to meet up with physically - if they are on holiday, for example.  As a result, young people often have a greater reliance on online devices to remain in contact during school holidays.  In addition, of course, many young people use the World Wide Web for entertainment, gaming and other activities.  This is not of itself harmful to those growing up in an increasingly global and digital world, but does pose some increased risks.

With more time spent online comes a greater likelihood that young people may be exposed to inappropriate or offensive material, or put at risk from online predators.  Parents and carers can minimise these risks by following the advice given by the NSPCC and other child protection groups and, most importantly, by having open, non judgemental talks with their children about their online lives.
