Careers Information for Parents & Carers
Parental support plays a crucial role in helping young people make informed career decisions. Many students say their parents influence their choices the most.
In a rapidly changing and growing job market, with new opportunities available all the time, ways to support your child include:
- Being aware of key transition points (Year 9 options, post-16 choices, post-18 choices).
- Attending events at school
- Year 9 Options and Parents' Evening
- Year 10 Parents' Evening
- Year 11 Parents' Evening
- Year 12 and Year 13 Parents' Higher Education Evening in September
- Talking to them about future plans.
- Supporting them with work experience, (offered in Years 10 and 12).
- Encouraging them to make the most of Careers Guidance Interviews (Years 11 and Sixth Form).
- Finding out about post 16 courses, university or job entry requirements.
- Encouraging participation in extra-curricular activities and clubs, hobbies, out of school activities and voluntary or part time work, to help them create a more impressive university personal statement or CV.
