World Book Day 2019
We celebrated World Book Day at BGGS today with a range of activities, story writing competitions and the traditional slew of of book-character costumes. There was a real buzz and some brilliant costumes, food and fun - the Literary Society will be mounting photos and a display in school over the coming days.
Monies raised by Forms for the 'Dress as a book character' scheme will go to Cancer Research UK - We are grateful to Tutors and to Mrs Price in Finance for collecting and counting the money. (Mrs Price also spent the day with a bright red painted face, dressed as a chili from one of the books in the school library - try and work out which one if you can!)
Well done to Ms Riaz for her lovely Queen of Hearts costume (pic to follow if we can persuade her) and Saraah in Year 8 for her phenomenal Mad Hatter costume. They both won a box of chocolates each for their efforts.
In her role as judge, Ms Smith-James also awarded books to students who made a notable effort with their costumes - thank you to her and to them.
Congratulations to Iqra in Year 7 who won first prize for the best 100 word story in the Year 7 'Contamination' Writing Workshop run by BGGS Literary Society this afternoon; she beat some really good pieces written by other students. The whole of Year 7 were a brilliant. Special thanks go to Ms Allen, Mr Rozak, Mr Bailey and Ms Batool for supporting English teachers and Year 12 students during the session.
The BBC 500 Word Competition winner and first and second runners up will be announced tomorrow.
Finally, the members of the Year 12 BGGS Literary Society can walk around school with their heads held high after an amazing effort this past week; staying to work on these projects after school and during free periods and especially today with the food sale and the workshop - they are a credit to our school!
Well done everyone!Ms S Arif
