Our Successful RE Department

In the first our regular articles about our curriculum departments, we want to showcase the continued success of the RE Department at Bordesley Green Girls' School and Sixth Form.

2018 saw the first cohort of pupils take the new, harder GCSE exams and we were thrilled with their performance:

The new course was part of the package of reforms by former education secretary Michael Gove , designed to toughen up syllabuses and cut down on the number of students getting top A* grades. However students at BGGS rose to the challenge and have broken the previous record and, in doing so, succeeded in maintaining the RE Department's position as one of the strongest at BGGS. The results above are some of the best GCSE results in the school.

We consider the RE Department to be really important in our broad and balanced curriculum. The GCSE course we teach encourages students to engage with a wide range of concepts to enable them to interpret, contextualize and analyse the expressions of religions and worldviews they encounter with confidence.

In turn, this prepares them for their role as future leaders in our school community, the local community, the West Midlands and even nationally.
