  • Tuesday 12 October 2021 Covid-related risk assessments updated We have updated our risk assessments related to general Covid to include measures for the safe delivery of the Vaccination Programme for 12-15 year olds. This additional risk assessment is available alongside our existing control measures to keep the school Covid-safe. We've also published our Covid outbreak continency plan.
  • Monday 11 October 2021 Letter to parents about Covid- 19 testing and vaccines from the Government Please click on this link to download a joint letter to parents from the Secretaries of State for Education and for Health and Social Care. It talks about the importance of testing and about the vaccination programme.
  • Monday 12 July 2021 Rise in Covid cases at BGGS We are concerned there are a number of live cases of Covid19 amongst our students. Please please help us to keep on top of them through regualr testing
  • Monday 1 March 2021 The importance of being vaccinated If you haven’t seen it yet, catch up on a video with councillors from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds who have joined together to promote the Covid-19 vaccine uptake within BAME communities across the city.
  • Thursday 25 February 2021 Consent forms needed for Covid testing We are offering on-site Covid-19 testing to all our students and staff when they return to school during the week begining 8th March. We need all parents/carers to complete the online consent form. More details here.
  • Wednesday 24 February 2021 Video tour of Covid Testing at BGGS We encourage all staff and students to agree to be tested for Covid-19 (Coronavirus) as part of the mass testing programme when students return to school from the 8th March.   • Wednesday 27 January 2021 Effective use of the 16-19 tuition fund The number of students who have not passed either Maths/English has now reduced to 44 from the original 59. These are pleasing results as 15 additional students have now passed their GCSE Maths / English after few weeks of catch-up classes that started in October2020. These classes are funded by the 16-19 tuition fund.
  • Tuesday 5 January 2021 Info for Y13 about exams It is important you continue working to the best of your ability and attend all your online lessons. Your teachers will continue to remotely teach your A level subjects and vocational courses while we are in a national lockdown. You will need to upload work to your teachers; they will be marking your work. Teachers will be keeping a record of the work you submit. All of this could be very important if the Government decides that the school will be submitting centre assessed grades based on the work that you produce
  • Tuesday 5 January 2021 Info for Y11 about exams There is likely to be some kind of assessment that will replace the original format of exams. We don't know what this will be yet; however, we do know that students in Year 11 throughout the country will not be leaving secondary school without any formal grades.

  • Thursday 10 December 2020 Catch up funding: BGGS gets a share of £1 billion The government announced £1 billion of funding to support children and young people to catch up lost time after school closure. Find out how much BGGS is getting and how we are spending it.
  • Wednesday 25 November 2020 Single Covid19 case in Year 12 We have a single positive Covid19 case in Year 12. The parents/carers of students who have been in close contact with that student have been informed and those students have been told to self-isolate. If you have not been contacted, your child has not been in close contact with the infected student. In the mean time, please follow the advice in this article.
  • Sunday 15 November 2020 All of Year 10 must self-isolate We have a confirmed positive case of coronavirus (COVID-19) at school over the weekend. Due to this, all Year 10 students will need to self-isolate until Tuesday 24th November. In line with the national guidance your child must stay at home and not go out during this isolation period.

  • Monday 9 November 2020 Updated Covid-secure risk assessment We regularly review our safety arrangements to make sure the site is Covid-secure. We are happy to share our assessment of the risk and the measure we have in place to control it. You can download our risk assessment here

  • Saturday 31 October 2020 Our plans for the 16-19 Tuition Fund The Government as made additional funding for one-year available to schools, colleges and other 16 to 19 providers to mitigate the disruption to learning arising from coronavirus (COVID-19).   • Friday 25 September 2020 Telephone Helpline for Parents and Carers Do you as a parent or carer feel that you need someone to talk to about your child during the return to school phase? Birmingham Educational Psychology Service is providing a telephone helpline for any parents or carers of children in Birmingham, who feel they would benefit from a consultation with a psychologist to support them
  • Thursday 24 September 2020 Food parcels for 6th Form students Sixth Form students who receive free school meals are entitled to a food parcel whilst out of school due to Covid19.
  • Friday 18 September 2020 Letter from the Headteacher Latest information letter from the Headteacher is available to download. Please read it as it contains important information about what to do if your child is unwell or has Covid19 symptoms
  • Thursday 3 September 2020 We are fully reopen Most of our students have not set foot on the school site since March, so it is great to be fully open and welcoming students back to BGGS.
  • Wednesday 26 August 2020 Letter with details of reopening in September We have published details of all our arrangements for reopening in September including rules about face masks, break and lunch time rotas, information on times of the school day and lots more.   • Tuesday 25 August 2020 Equality impact assessment of re-opening To avoid discriminating against any group(s) of individuals, we have undertaken an equality impact assessment of our proposed arrangements for fully reopening the school safely. You can read the EIA here.
  • Tuesday 25 August 2020 Year group bubbles To keep everyone safe at school and to reduce the risk of spreading COVID19, we are implementing a 'bubble' system in September. Each Form Group will be allocated a base classroom. Each Year group will have a designated to an outdoor space.  All areas to be marked out and labelled.  Click here for details.
  • Tuesday 25 August 2020 Risk Assessment for full reopening in September We have published our assessment of the risks related to re-opening of the school. This document (available by clicking on the link) shows what we think the risks are and the measure we have put in place to minimize the risks.

  • Monday 20 July 2020 Don't forget - get tested if you have COVID19 symptoms The Government wants anyone who has COVID-19 symptoms to self-isolate at home and to book a Coronavirus test. This page links to the Government webpage giving all the information students, parents and staff need to know about how to arrange a test. It is really important that everyone follows the Government guidance to protect each other, the school and the wider community.
