This workshop will help you to adapt your lessons in order to make them more inclusive and safe towards students with physical difficulties. This workshop can also help you support students who are lower ability in terms of practical performance. Staff will be taught techniques of how to communicate with EAL students when there is a language barrier.
Creating a deaf friendly school
The emphasis will be on use of language: language levels of students and the impact on accessing the curriculum, supporting their use of spoken and written language, with a side order of minor barriers that can create larger problems.
Dr Ruth Wilson is a freelance equalities and EAL consultant based in Birmingham. Since January 2014 she has also job-shared the role of EAL Nexus Co-ordinator (Resources). Originally a secondary English teacher, she has 18 years’ teaching experience, mainly working as an EAL specialist. She also spent six years managing a team supporting new arrivals, refugees and asylum seekers for Wolverhampton LA.
